Christmas Spirit

Last Monday we celebrated the beginning of another Christmas season with Sutton's Parade of Lights. The evening started out great with balloon art at the Legion.

Then the night began to slide down hill. Jentry seems to have lost a bit of her Christmas spirit this year. It is sad to think she is growing up and some of the magic is now under interrogation. She did not want to decorate cookies with her annoying little brother, she wanted to participate in the scavenger hunt with her friends. Just look at that face! Not happy.

Her brother didn't want to go from business to business hunting for ornaments because it was too cold. At 37 weeks pregnant, I could hardly walk let alone carry a crying three-year-old and deal with a sassy 9 nine-year-old. What was supposed to be a festive evening of fun quickly went up in smoke and I had to call Nathan for reinforcements. He skipped showering and quickly met us downtown to rescued me. He took Mason, I took Jentry and we divided and conquered. Great, right? Then I remembered the little guy in my tummy and sank a bit as I realized that we are soon going to be out numbered. What were we thinking?

By the time we got in line to see Santa, Jentry was in a little better mood but wasn't sure if she wanted to sit on Santa's lap. "It's not really him!" I told her she didn't have to but she may be risking the chance of getting any presents from him. You could tell that she was truly contemplating the entire Santa scenario. It is obvious that she has doubt but really still wants to believe. Thankfully, she didn't want to ruin anything for her little brother so she politely sucked it up and smiled big for the picture.

It is truly bittersweet to watch your child grow. And to think...next year we will have a one-year-old in to attempt fitting into this picture!
