This Christmas

This Christmas was a little different than Christmases of my recent past. This Christmas required zero travel. This Christmas was quiet, cold, and white. This Christmas was peaceful, full of blessings and lots of snuggles. The one thing that remained the same was that it included a precious and new baby boy.

This Christmas will forever be kept in a special place in my heart.

Christmas Concert Rock Star

Mason had his first preschool program on Saturday and completely stole the show. As soon as these precious kiddos started to sing, there was obviously one little one that was singing louder than the rest. It didn't take long for this mama to recognize that infamous voice.

Nathan and I tried to contain our laughter and wondered if anyone else would recognize from where the "screaming" was originating. When the concert was over, several people approached us with comments.

"He is so cute." "Mason sure loves to sing." "He must get that from his mother, because Nathan was such a shy and quiet little boy." "Mason must love to perform like his Papa John." "Mason rocked the Christmas program today." "Your son is a rock star!"

"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is signing loud for all to hear."

Tucker Jack

Sunday, December 10th - 38 Weeks:

Tuesday, December 12th:

The morning began like any other typical Tuesday morning. At 7:45, I kissed Jentry goodbye and sent her to the bus stop. As she walked away she said, "Maybe baby brother will come today." Well little did we know she was right.

I logged into work on my computer around 8:00 am, as I sat in my office chair, I felt the first contraction. I wasn't sure if it was the real deal so I continued about my day. I took Mason to preschool at 8:30 and had a few more contractions. I decided I had better grab milk and a few other items at the grocery store in case it turned into to real labor. I returned home and quickly finished up a few work e-mails and updated my "out of office" notifications.  I called Nathan around 10:00. I told him I was having contractions every 20 minutes or so and that it might be best for him to come home, pack his things and shuffle Mason from preschool to daycare at 11:00. I took a quick shower and packed up the last of my things still unsure if this was the real deal or not.

It was 11:20 by the time we left Sutton and headed toward Hastings. My doctor had instructed me to go the clinic if I was having contractions during office hours. I called the office and the girl on the phone said Dr. Pankratz would be out to lunch by the time we arrived there. The trip went fairly quickly and my contractions were 10-15 minutes apart but still not significantly stronger. When we pulled into the parking lot at the clinic, I did not want to get out of the car. I was thinking, "I don't want to be here." Against my intuition, we went in. They weighed me, took my blood pressure and showed me to a room. We waited for Holly, the midwife, for what seemed an eternity. I had a fairly strong contraction and told Nathan if she didn't arrive in 1 minute I was walking out of there. Nathan left the room, personally found Holly and made her come check me. Holly was very calm and talked me through another contraction. When she checked me she began to panic a bit. I was nearly complete! She ordered Nathan to pull the car around and grabbed the phone to inform the hospital we were coming and coming in hot. She quickly walked me to the car, gave Nathan directions to the hospital and instructed him to drive fast. Nathan put on the hazards and drove like a stunt driver. It was just like the movies!

When we arrived at the emergency entrance, they made Nathan go over to the admissions desk. I stood in the hall hunched over while clinging the handrail just trying to survive. They finally had me sign some paperwork, put me a chair and wheeled me to the labor and delivery floor. Fortunately, I had created enough commotion the nurses and my doctor were there and ready for me. At 12:25 pm I was placed in a labor bed. At 12:33, my doctor broke my water. At 12:35 Tucker Jack McKenzie came into this world and took his first breath. The sound of his cry was the most beautiful music and just like that...everything was perfect again. By the grace of God, I was snuggling a healthy baby boy with handsome brown hair. 6 lbs 2 oz and 19 inches. He was perfect!

Thursday, December 14th - Heading Home:

Oh Baby Brother, welcome to our tribe. We haven't a doubt you will grow to do amazing things. You are loved by many and certainly by us.
