Her Mother's Daughter

Jentry does not look much like me, namely her blond hair, but I am beginning to realize that she just might have her mother's obsession with organization.  As I was making spaghetti for dinner, my little helper kept sticking her fingers in the sauce.  I finally decided to put some in a bowl for her to keep her occupied for a few minutes.  She was contently eating the sauce with a spoon in the kitchen as I ran downstairs to change a load of laundry. When I returned, the empty bowl was on the kitchen counter. Miss Jentry and more importantly the spoon were no where to be seen.  I yelled for her and she ran into the kitchen and said, "What?" I asked her where the spoon was and she proudly explained, "I put it away."  I immediately was thinking, in which sofa cushion am I going to find the sauce covered spoon?  So I asked her "Where is away?"  She calmly walked over to the dishwasher, opened the door and pointed to the spoon, which was neatly placed upright in the silverware rack.  Ah...I have trained her well!  Now, if only she could teach her Grandma.

Diaper Money

Last Friday, Jentry wore BIG girl underwear to daycare for the first time! I was worried about how the day would go, but she stayed dry all day.  I had been letting her wear them at home but thought that her daycare teachers would not appreciate me sending her to school in underwear and having to deal with an accident.   However, Miss Lauren asked me about the idea of sending her in them, so I decided that Friday was the day to give it a try.  I should have known that she was ready, a few weeks ago, when I caught her standing on the big toilet rinsing out her little potty in the sink.  She had quietly disappeared, made a “stinky,” dumped and flushed it in the big toilet, pulled up her pants and proceeded to clean up in the sink.  When I walked in, she simply looked at me and said, “Mommy’s job?”  Another milestone day for my little girl, and I am so proud of her!  Now, what to do with all the diaper money we will be saving?

This picture is from last spring, but I thought it was fitting.

Santa Claus!

Sunday, December 5th, my friend Abby was kind enough to invite Jentry and I to the Dreams Unlimited Holiday Party.  Dreams Unlimited coordinates and funds recreation opportunities for children with disabilities and their families.  The holiday party had food, games, candy, door prizes and Santa!.  Jentry was very excited to go sit with him and tell him exactly what she wanted for Christmas.  There was a line to see him, so we decided to find a table and set down our things.  The minute I set Jentry on the floor she immediately made a bee line to Santa, confidently walking past all the other children who were patiently waiting in line.  By the time I realized she was missing, Jentry was about to make a cameo appearance in some other, well behaved, little girl's picture with Santa.  Luckily I was just in time to grab her up and explain to her that we need to wait our turn.  Finally it was Jentry's turn to sit on Santa's lap and she froze.  The only way she would approach him was if Mommy came too, so we both got to sit and take a picture with Santa.  As soon as we were finished and back at our table eating, Jentry was then ready to go tell Santa what she wanted for Christmas all by herself.  Maybe next year she won't choke under all the holiday pressure!
