Sunshine and Clouds

It had been 9 years since Nathan and I had taken a multiple night trip by ourselves. So in October, I planned a long weekend getaway to sunny Arizona. We were very much looking forward to our time away.

Beginning in January, events continued to arise changing our original plans but we shifted and pivoted determined to make our vacation happen.

The day we left was awful. Mason's school was canceled due to too much illness, Tucker spewed all over Jentry and the car on the way to daycare and my parents could not make it to Sutton before we needed to leave for the airport. We had to make immediate decisions that seemed impossible.

Papa John came to the rescue and Nathan and I committed to soldiering on with the plans, all the while seconded guessing everything.

About half way through the flight, the sunlight peaked out and our nerves seemed to have calmed. All was well and we were ready to enjoy 3 days in the glorious 70 degree desert air.

At home the boys were well cared for by all four grandparents and Tucker quickly bounced back to life. Jentry somehow stayed healthy and was able to enjoy the weekend in Kansas City with her friend Kyla.

As the fun was coming to an end, the clouds rolled in again. Papa Bose caught the bug and our flight home was canceled.

After 21 hours of travel, $900 more in travel expenses, an Uber ride to a different airport, a car shuffle (courtesy of my in-laws), a new flight to Omaha instead of Grand Island and a private shuttle to our car in York, we finally crawled into be around 3 AM.

It never felt so good to be home. I could not wait to kiss on our kiddos and take care of everything in person.

All was bright.... for a day but then the gray took over again. I, unfortunately, became the next victim of the nasty stomach bug!

The things I know for sure:
1. I am not in control and never have been.
2. We all get sick from time to time.
3. It takes a village to raise children.
4. You only notice the sunshine with the clouds roll in.

Unwrapping and Wrapping Up

Four fabulous (holi)days in Orleans made for all types of moments.

Joy, play, creativity, puzzles, savor, baking, jokes, movies, strikes, music, peace, walks, warmth, snow...

While we were unwrapping moments and presents, we were simultaneously wrapping up what was the unprecedented year of 2021.
