Granny and the Disappointing Zoo

Last Summer we were unable to see my Granny Mary due to Covid, so this year it was priority that we visit her before Jentry flew to Florida for the Summer.

We stayed at our favorite Maxwell House in Tekamah and enjoyed some much needed visiting and hugs. Granny gave us a tour of her amazing yard and she even brought a vase of her beautiful flowers for us to enjoy. We were even able to celebrate my Uncle Paul's 65th Birthday with a special birthday breakfast.

Saturday we headed to the Omaha Zoo. Mason was fairly young last time we were there, so I thought it would be a fun thing to experience again. Unfortunately, they were back to full capacity and didn't have enough staff. Parking was crazy! After finally entering the gates we headed to the Jungle but only got about 50 feet in and had to evacuate due to a fire alarm. Then the Aquarium closed right as we were about to enter it and the line to the Dome was very long. It took 45 minutes to get our lunch as the food stands were understaffed. We attempted the Jungle again before leaving but missed it by 20 minutes. Talk about disappointed! If it were not for a kind employee listing to my complaints and gifting us complimentary admission and ride tickets for a future visit, I would say it was a complete bust. Papa said we saw more human animals than wild animals!

It was one of those days where I wanted to act like a child in my discontent, but I did my best to set a good example for my kids and make the best of a bad situation.

We stayed in a hotel near the airport and the kids got to swim a bit before bedtime. Jentry and I got up at 4am and I said goodbye as she flew off to Florida by herself. Just a few tears were shed by her mother.

It was a marathon weekend and I was so grateful to have my parents their to help out. Hopefully we made a few fond memories.
