Mad Man Mason's Monster Jam Party

This past week we celebrated Mason turning 5 with all things Monster Truck.

He selected brownies to share with his preschool class and muddy tires (chocolate doughnuts) to share with his daycare friends.

Friday afternoon we surprised him with an overnight stay at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln. Papa and Onnie came along and we all enjoyed a night of happy hour, dinner at Misty's swimming and elevator rides.

Saturday morning we surprised him yet again with tickets to Monster Jam including pit pass access.

Papa and Nathan both agreed that 5 hours of Monster Jam was plenty, however they had a great day with Mason and made lots of great memories.

Happy 5th Birthday to my sweet Mason. You are loud, extremely social, intelligent, intense, kindhearted and all boy. You are loved by many and we are grateful for five entertaining years with you. May God grant you many many more!

It Has Come!

Yesterday morning, a sweet little boy came to me in his "pajammies" and whispered, "Happy Spring Mama."

Happy Spring indeed!

The past few months, Jentry and I have been reading The Secret Garden. Ironically yesterday, the first official day of Spring, we were on the chapter "It Has Come" when Mary tells Colin about Spring arriving.

"You never saw anything so beautiful! It has come!...It is here now! It has come, the Spring! Dickon says so!"

When reading, I felt as if Mary had stolen the words right out of my mind. I share her excitement completely.

If We Had No Winter

This winter has been long and cold. The temps in February were brutal with not even one higher than average day. The bitterness rolled right into March and the week of Spring Break was a rough one. Up until last week I felt I did a fairly decent job of staying positive, popping my vitamin D and soaking in all the fun winter-like traditions. However, last week brought me to my knees. In my defense, several things attributed to my demise.

1. I caught a cold which was simply annoying.
2. Both boys were not sleeping well causing me to be up in the night and early morning hours.
3. School dismissed at 2 PM both Monday and Tuesday for parent teacher conferences.
4. I had a PEO meeting Monday night that lasted much too long.
5. I traveled to Hastings for lunch with my girlfriend on Tuesday and to York on Wednesday for our tax appointment.
6. School dismissed at 11:30 AM on Thursday for Boys State Basketball.
7. No Daycare Thursday or Friday.
8. Work was of course busier than I had anticipated.

It was the perfect storm. March rolled in and over me like a lion.

At one point on Thursday, I was balancing the phone on my shoulder, attempting to speak intelligently to my boss while throwing cereal out on the floor in attempt to keep the boys quiet. Absolutely bananas I tell you!

On a positive note, the children did entertain each other some of the time. Mason got creative and built an airplane for Tucker.

Jentry eventually talked Mason into playing school. They can be sweet for a hot minute and then back to whining, screaming, hitting, crying, "It's not fair!"

I am always grateful for the extra time with my kids. I am very aware how lucky I am to be able to experience motherhood with THREE healthy, extraordinary kids. I also know that I am at my best when there is structure and everyone goes away so I can work during the day.

36

I am absolutely grateful for my 36 years on this earth, because I do not know how many I will be given. I had a fantastic day of celebration, received some practical gifts of things I wanted and some very special gifts that I will cherish. Mason even added me to his special school calendar.

The day after my birthday, I headed to Omaha with Jentry, my sister and my niece for a girls getaway. Kelly had tickets to the Gloria Estefan musical "Up On Your Feet" at the Orpheum Theatre. She even arranged a hotel room across the street at the historical Hotel Deco.

Even though it was snowy and freezing, we strolled through the Old Market. Shopping, sampling chocolate, eating, drinking...It was fabulous! I felt completely spoiled.

Here are a few pics from the camera roll:

I guess I can't truly compare, but I am going to just say that girls have more fun!
